Our System and How It Works

It’s this simple:

  • The same hot and cold water pipes that supply your building’s domestic needs also provide heating and cooling to your rooms. Half as many pipes are used compared to the traditional four-pipe system. In fact, in systems where seven pipes are used, an advancement in IPS™ technology can decrease that to just two pipes! And the result is the same comfort and flexibility!
  • The central heat plant that you use for domestic water in the multi-unit building also heats each home. There is no need for a separate boiler and/or other components.
  • Each room or group of rooms has an IPS™ Terminal Unit installed. No exhaust, venting, or holes in outside walls are required.
  • IPS™ Terminal Units are sized for the space they are expected to heat and cool. The Delta T of each can be adjusted and built accordingly.
  • Each domicile occupant is provided an equal and personally-controllable level of comfort via a local zone thermostat.
  • None of the parts or pieces used in IPS™ is proprietary or particularly special; only the configuration and they way they are used is unique.
  • Through the use of off-the-shelf valves and switches, potable water for domestic use and water for heating and cooling are totally isolated from all non-potable devices. The same water that you shower with or drink is used to heat and cool your apartment, condo, or hotel room! IPS™ is totally code-compliant in all jurisdictions in North America.
  • Terminal units are NSF 61 rated and have adjustable rows and circuits to provide heating and cooling.

Our system is ideal for multi-unit development: hotels, motels, seniors’ residences, condos, apartments, clinics and hospitals.

We provide the same thermostatically-controlled comfort as your home in our commercial applications, while eliminating the need for the noisy, through-the-wall heating and air conditioning systems so commonly used.

The Integrated Piping System

  • The IPS™ is designed to provide heating and cooling to rooms using existing hot and cold domestic water lines. It can be used in both new and retrofit applications. Water is supplied to Terminal Units located in each space. Valves, thermostats, piping, and mechanical room equipment are supplied by the contractor.
  • In many instances, our systems can provide a portion of free cooling by using the temperature of the incoming water to decrease chiller runtimes.
  • Some components are off-the-shelf while others are manufactured specifically for the system. Dealers have access to this equipment via major suppliers across the country. Our system is completely code-compliant and can be installed anywhere in North America. Dealers of our products have access to technical information and a comprehensive ordering process that helps in product specification.
  • We can provide you with detailed drawings for design and assist engineers, architects, and design builders on your first projects. Fees apply to these services, along with a review of drawing service.
  • Many third-party studies of our system have been undertaken done and are available to those interested. We also have an extensive network of experienced engineers and mechanical contractors if needed to provide design-and-install services on projects.

Retrofits With IPS™

Post-pandemic North America has and will see millions of square feet of commercial building space converted to living units. The world of business has learned it doesn’t necessarily need a large physical presence in the form of office space!

IPS™ is a brilliant solution for more easily and cost-effectively converting building HVAC systems away from being centrally controlled.
